Internal limitations, inhibitions, fears, and insecurity create a fictitious, stuffy, and cramped prison-box around us. We become trapped in the box, alone with our fears and problems. I appreciate the expression "thinking outside the box", which encourages thinking in new ways, discarding established norms and habits, and viewing things from an external perspective to discover new solutions.
It is challenging to break free from our habitual selves and escape the self-imposed limitations. There is a common tendency to retreat from the outside world. We tend to prefer the confined boxes of our habitual thoughts, perceptions, feelings, and emotions, hesitating to willingly leave them and open ourselves to the world with all its pains and joys.
