Grief Series | 2023
Acrylic on Paper | 9 x 12 inch
On the third floor of my solo exhibition In Spite of Our Fears, two series of works were hung facing each other in this narrow corridor, symbolizing the brevity of human life. On one side are several pieces I created during an art residency in Russia, when, as I later discovered, I was pregnant with my son Valentin, although I was not yet aware of it. These works are painted in oil on plywood and incorporate hand-cut wooden elements. Opposite them is the Grief series, created after my son’s death, when I was unable to speak and could only draw.

The embroidery is part of the project "Stitching `Memories of Those Lost", organized by Stephanie Romano and is based on thoughts from Valentin's diary.
